Topic: “Non-Probability Sampling”

SOLUTION:

1. Which Non-Probability Sampling Technique should be adopted by the

researcher in the given scenario? 

Convenience Sampling OR

And Snowball Sampling

2. Give two justifications in this regard.  As clearly mentioned in the scenario that the infrastructure is completely destroyed due to heavy rainfall and also the Unions and hospitals are reluctant to provide lists to the researcher for data collection hence

Convenience Sampling is the most appropriate Non-Probability Sampling

Technique in this regard. The researcher will collect data from those people

whom he can approach easily and conveniently keeping in view the scenario. 

 Furthermore, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) wants to

get a quick and efficient data from the researcher to take immediate

actions to help the affected people so Convenience Sampling would be the

most appropriate method in this scenario where he can gather the data from the

respondents by directly visiting the hospital wards.  The researcher can also adopt a Snow Ball Sampling technique in which he

can initially select elements (affected people) and ask them to identify other

probable elements for the purpose of data collection. As due to bad weather

conditions and non-availability of sampling frame, Snow Ball Sampling can

be used by the researcher to ease data collection.
